All set for school run

FOUR talented young Balfron High athletes will be setting the pace at the school’s 4K next month.

The race will be run before the Co-operative Balfron 10K on Sunday, April 26 – and the fantastic foursome from Central Athletics Club will be among the favourites.

Tom Watson (15) won gold last month in the under-17 800m at the Scottish Indoor Championships. His time of 2.01.32 broke the record set by former Balfron High pupil Alistair Hay in 2001.

Joining Tom at the recent Forth Valley Schools Championships were fellow pupils Imogen Burnell (13), Kieran Everden (14) and Andrew McInally (12), who all proved they were forces to be reckoned with.

Stuart MacKay, principal teacher of PE, said: “We have some very talented runners at Balfron and the 4K race last year proved to be a real success, with more than 80 pupils taking part.

“The atmosphere was electric for runners and spectators alike and the event is a huge fundraiser for the school.

“This year even more pupils are signed up to run the 4K whilst many members of staff are also in training to run the main Balfron 10K.”
