ORGANISERS of the Balfron 10K run have handed over more than £6000 to local schools and Strathcarron Hospice.

More than 600 runners entered the sixth annual run this year.

The money raised has been divided between Balfron Primary and Balfron High School as well as Strathcarron Hospice.

Race director Colin Mendham said: “This year the Mulberry Bush Montessori Balfron 10K was even bigger and better than ever, encouraging local runners both young and old to take part and enjoy an active healthy lifestyle.

“The whole community has been involved and has been very excited to see this event on their own doorstep.

“The race has raised over £42,000 in the last six years.

“Our sincere thanks go out to our very generous main sponsor Mulberry Bush, local business sponsors, the runners, spectators and the army of volunteers who give up their time to ensure that Balfron hosts a very prestigious and successful 10K.”

Balfron High’s principal teacher of PE Neil McQuarrie, said: “This is a fantastic sum of money that the Balfron 10K is donating to both schools and it is very much appreciated.

“I am always amazed, not only at the amount of money raised but the feeling of community that the Balfron 10K event creates.

“It is an important fundraiser for us and such commitment from Balfron and the business community is wonderful.”
