New Challenge for G63 Runners

The Mulberry Bush Montessori Balfron 10K takes place on Sunday 22nd April at 11am from Balfron Campus. Now in its sixth year, the race continues to go from strength to strength, and was recently voted the number one 10K in Scotland.

A staggering £35K has been raised for local school children in the past five years and this year funds raised will be divided between Balfron Primary School, Balfron High School and Strathcarron Hospice.

This year sees the introduction of two new prize categories for the fastest male and female runners of the 10k who live within the G63 postcode. Known as the Ricky Govan Memorial Trophies these are to commemorate the life of much-loved local runner Ricky Govan who tragically died in 2011. Ricky was a popular member of the local running club, who always brought a smile and a laugh to his training. The winners of these awards will each receive a trophy to keep, and there will be prize cups that will be engraved with the winners names and put on display in the trophy cabinet at Balfron Campus Reception.

Colin Mendham, Race Director said “Balfron has a real community spirit across all ages and the Balfron 10K brings out the very best in people. We wanted to recognise Ricky’s life and we hope these trophies will be a fitting way to remember him. The area has a huge number of enthusiastic runners of all abilities, and I’m sure there will be some tough competition to win these prestigious new trophies.”

Mulberry Bush Montessori is the major sponsor of the event with other sponsors being Taggarts Glasgow, Endrick Property, Beech Tree Inn, Careth Ltd and many others.

Spectators can be assured of a warm welcome and a great day out with Doyle’s Deli serving refreshments and home baking.
