A Runaway Success

The children of Balfron Primary School and Balfron High School were delighted this week to receive a couple of extra large cheques from the recent Co-operative Balfron 10K road race. Almost 600 runners took part in Balfron’s 3rd annual 10K last month and raised over £7500 for local schools. Already voted Scotland’s 5th best 10K, by the readers of a National running magazine, the race has captured the imagination of the local community and runners of all abilities from all over the UK.

Ann McIntosh, Head Teacher of Balfron Primary said, ” We are thrilled for the children to benefit from this community event. It reinforces our commitment to a healthy, active lifestyle. After discussions with parents and teachers, we will be considering buying safety flooring for the outdoor play equipment and to use the services of a dance exercise tutor to ensure all pupils benefit from this generous donation.”

Stuart MacKay, Principal Teacher of PE at Balfron High School said, “This is a fantastic sum of money that the Co-operative Balfron 10K is donating to both schools and it is very much appreciated. We are initially hoping to buy Balfron High School Team strips across a wide range of activities including football, gymnastics, athletics, and basketball.

Colin Mendham, Race Director said, ” The Co-operative Balfron 10K race gets bigger and better every year. Our sincere thanks go out to our very generous main sponsor, the Co-operative, local business sponsors, the runners, spectators and the army of volunteers who give up their time to ensure that Balfron hosts a very prestigious and successful 10K. The comments from runners and sponsors alike on our website www.balfron10k.org.uk are so encouraging. We’ll be back in 2010 for the 4th Co-operative Balfron 10K in April – keep an eye on our website for further details.”
