ALMOST 600 runners took part the third Co-operative Balfron 10K on Sunday.

Carnegie Harriers athlete Ian Stewart was first home in a time of 35.21 with Claire Couper taking the women’s race in 40.27.

But the winners on the day will be Balfron Primary and Balfron High Schools – the beneficiaries of the race.

Race organiser Colin Mendham said: “It was an incredible sight to see all the runners at the starting line.

“The race has become a huge success and a real favourite with runners, young and old from all over the country. The event embraces the whole community and our thanks go to the generosity of our main sponsor the Co-operative and the many other local businesses who continue to support us.

“Our thanks also to all our many volunteers who willingly gave up their time to assist in so may ways to make the day such a resounding success.”
